The Buckley School in the City of New York, an all-boys K-8 + Academy Year day school, located on the Upper East Side of Manhattan, is seeking a maternity leave replacement for a third grade Associate Teacher from late August through December 2026. This position entails splitting time between two classrooms to help maintain a positive learning environment for all students, and to ensure that the individual needs of all students are met.
Key Responsibilities:
- Effectively collaborate with the Head Teacher to plan and prepare differentiated lessons.
- Actively participate in daily classroom management and logistics.
- Communicate regularly with the Head Teachers about students’ academic progress and social/emotional growth.
- Plan and teach small group lessons across a variety of content areas.
- Participate in weekly grade level meetings pertaining to curriculum, data, student social emotional development, etc.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in Education
- Previous experience working with Lower School aged children and/or a desire to learn how to teach in primary grades
- An ability to work collaboratively
- Strong communication skills in both oral and written forms
- Strong executive functioning skills

Position Overview:
Buckley is seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Lower School French Language Teacher to join our vibrant and collaborative team. The French teacher will introduce young learners to the French language through engaging, interactive, and developmentally appropriate activities that foster both language acquisition and cultural appreciation. This teacher will integrate content learning with language development via activities where the main topics come from the regular curriculum content areas (i.e., social studies, mathematics, science) so that language is acquired in a meaningful context.
Key Responsibilities:
Language Instruction: Teach French to students in grades 1–3 through immersive, hands-on, and play-based methods that develop listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills supported by visuals, songs and games.
Curriculum Development: Plan and implement French language lessons that are aligned with the school’s curriculum, focusing on age-appropriate materials and activities that encourage language fluency.
Assessment and Feedback: Regularly assess student progress and provide constructive feedback. Use a variety of formative assessments to track language development and adjust instruction as needed. Write report cards twice yearly (narratives and checklists).
Cultural Exploration: Integrate cultural elements into lessons, exposing students to French-speaking countries’ customs, traditions, geography, and history.
Classroom Management: Create a positive, inclusive, and supportive learning environment where all students feel confident and motivated to explore the French language.
Collaboration: Work closely with fellow teachers, staff, and administrators to ensure a cohesive and integrated approach to student learning across subjects.
Professional Development: Participate in ongoing professional learning and stay current with the best practices in language teaching and childhood education.
Responsibilities:
Assess, monitor, and analyze student progress using formal and informal assessments.
Tailor reading instruction to the group and individual student needs.
Collaborate with classroom teachers to support differentiated literacy instruction.
Stay current with research-based practices and emerging trends in reading education.
Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Education, French, or a related field. A Master’s degree in Education or Teaching is a plus.
Experience: Minimum of 5 years of teaching French in a language immersion or foreign language setting, at the elementary school level. Experience with FLES or TPRS (Teaching Proficiency through Reading and Storytelling) methodologies is a plus.
Language Skills: Native or near-native proficiency in French, with an ability to engage students in conversation and provide authentic language input.
Passion for Teaching: A genuine passion for working with young learners and fostering a love of language and culture.
Communication Skills: Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with an ability to work well with students, parents, and colleagues.

The Buckley School in the City of New York, an all-boys K–8 + Academy Year day school, located on the Upper East Side of Manhattan, is seeking an outstanding math teacher for the 2026–2027 academic year. This position entails teaching one section of 5th-grade math, one section of 6th-grade advanced math, and one section of 8th-grade advanced math.
The Buckley School’s math and history programs stand out for their depth, pace, rigor, and excellent preparation for success in secondary school. The 5th and 6th-grade math curriculum covers a range of topics, including arithmetic operations, fractions, decimals, percentages, ratios, proportions, measurement, volume, and area, along with an introduction to variables and algebraic expressions and equations. The 8th grade Advanced Math curriculum is a continuation of Algebra I, covering topics such as linear programming and quadratic functions, Factor and Remainder Theorems, geometric sequences and series, and discrete mathematics. There is a strong emphasis on building mathematical problem-solving and communication skills, and all students participate in Math Olympiad competitions.
Faculty at Buckley take part in the whole life of the school. Hosting student clubs, serving as advisors, and having family-style lunch with students are all hallmarks of the program and part of the faculty experience. The preferred candidate will also be interested in and qualified to be a homeroom teacher in the Upper School. The homeroom teacher position entails oversight of morning meetings, daily recess, lunch coverage, study hall, and a class play. The homeroom role requires building proactive relationships with families, including conferences in the fall and as needed throughout the year.
Requirements:
The ideal candidate will have at least 3–5 years of math teaching experience. Demonstrably in-depth knowledge of content and pedagogy is paramount.
Excellent writing, academic technology, and communication skills are vital. The successful candidate will recognize the unique opportunities afforded by an all-boys educational context, in addition to having a demonstrated passion for this age range. They will collaborate closely with colleagues within and across grade levels; collegiality and adaptability are essential qualities.
