Elementary school is a time when children are building a foundation they will stand upon for the rest of their academic lives.
At Buckley, that foundation comprises tenacity and grit, self-reflection, open-mindedness, and a growing understanding of oneself as a learner. Our talented educators artfully create environments where boys freely explore and discover successes and are rewarded for their efforts. We place an emphasis on developing skills essential for leaders in today’s global society, such as working collaboratively, thinking critically, and communicating clearly and confidently to inspire others.
When I step into a classroom and watch boys own their learning, I see our mission in action: discovering the joy of learning and the satisfaction of pursuing excellence.
Buckley’s is an education rooted in tradition and intention. My favorite moment of the day is looking every boy in the eye, greeting him by his name, shaking his hand, and hearing him say, “Good morning, Ms. Hunter.” And at lunch, when the entire Lower School gathers for a family-style meal, teachers and boys sit and eat together, deepening relationships that often last a lifetime.
In these simple interactions lie the power of intentional beginnings—of human connection—and the heartbeat of our Lower School community. Not only are we teaching academics, but we are also shaping good people.
Sincerely,
Faith Hunter
Director of the Lower School
