Applying to Buckley

Applications for Beginners (Kindergarten) for the 2020-2021 school year will be posted on August 27, 2019 and must be submitted online no later than December 1, 2019. The application fee of $75.00 is waived for those applying for financial aid.

If you would like to visit Buckley in the spring, the School offers tours in April and May for the families of prospective Beginners (Kindergarten) applicants. Buckley offers tours in the fall for all applicants, and all interviews and student visits will take place in the fall.

During the application process, you will tour the Buckley campus, meet with the Director of Admissions, and have your child visit.

Application Process for Beginners (Kindergarten)

Complete an application online.

Campus Tour (Required)
Online registration will open for fall tours on Tuesday, September 3, 2019. Please submit an application to access the tour registration portal. Those families who attended a spring tour are welcome to attend in the fall as well, but it is not required. During this comprehensive, 75-minute tour, current Buckley parents will introduce you to our campus and community, and answer any questions you may have.

Open House
Open House Evenings provide parents/guardians interested in the Beginners (Kindergarten) program with a valuable opportunity to learn more about Buckley. You will hear from Headmaster Greg O’Melia, members of the Buckley faculty, and current students. While not required, attendance is highly recommended. Adults only.

Parent/Guardian Meeting with Heidi Gore, Director of Admissions (Required)
It is recommended, although not required, that you tour the school prior to your meeting with our Director of Admissions, Heidi Gore. It will be possible for you to schedule your tour and meeting for the same day. If you already toured in the spring, you may schedule your meeting without a second tour.

Child Visit (Required)
After submitting an application, log in to sign up for your son's visit. This visit is required for all applicants, and serves as an opportunity for us to get to know your son.
  • Visits last approximately one hour.
  • Your son will partake in several group activities with other applicants and faculty members.
  • We offer visits on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons and select Saturdays.
  • Please dress your son in comfortable clothing.
School Reports & Testing (Required)
Please request that your son’s current school submit the ISAAGNY Confidential Report (no later than January 15, 2020 to The Buckley School does not require standardized testing for applicants to our Beginners (Kindergarten) program.

Application Deadline: Submit your completed application no later than Monday, December 2, 2019.

Application Process for Sibling/Legacy Candidates

Buckley is fortunate to have the strong support and loyalty of our families and alumni. If your son is a sibling or legacy candidate, you may, in accordance with ISAAGNY policy, elect “Early Notification” on his application. We still advise all sibling and legacy families to apply to a variety of schools.

All Buckley applicants are evaluated according to the same grade-specific admissions criteria to ensure an appropriate fit with our learning environment and create a vibrant and compelling class.

If you choose “Early Notification,” please schedule your interview and your son’s visit no later than Friday, November 15, 2019 and submit his current school report by Tuesday, December 3, 2019.

Important Dates
Please note the following important dates for sibling/legacy applicants:
Early Notification Application Deadline: To be considered for Early Notification, applications must be submitted by Friday, November 1, 2019. School reports must be received by Monday, December 2, 2019. Parents who wish to elect Early Notification should notify us no later than Friday, December 6, 2019.

Application Process for Classes I-VII

Inquiry & Application
Applications for Classes I-VII are reviewed based upon openings for the upcoming year. Submit an inquiry form to receive further grade-specific information. In the event that a place becomes available, we will ask you to fill out an application and provide us with your son’s school report and test scores (if applicable). Once we have received your materials, we will guide you through the next steps of the process.

Parent/Guardian Tour & Meeting with Director of Admissions
After submitting your completed application, you will tour our campus and meet with our Director of Admissions, Heidi Gore.

Student Visit
Your son will visit Buckley, meet some of our students and faculty, and participate in the daily routine specific to his incoming grade.

School Reports

  • For Class I: The Buckley School does not require standardized testing.
  • For Classes II-III: We require the ISEE Primary administered by ERB (Educational Records Bureau). Please request that your son’s results be sent directly to The Buckley School.
  • For Class IV: We require the ISEE Primary administered by ERB (Educational Records Bureau). Please request that your son’s results be sent directly to The Buckley School.
  • For Classes V-VII: We require either the ISEE (Independent School Entrance Exam) or the SSAT. Please request that your son’s results be sent directly to The Buckley School.  
Application Deadline: Applications will be accepted based upon anticipated openings for the following year.

Parent Reply Deadline: Parents should notify schools of their decision no later than 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 26, 2019.
