The Buckley School seeks faculty members who are well-trained in their discipline and care deeply about the growth and development of boys. Buckley believes in offering professional development opportunities for its teachers and staff members to learn both from their colleagues as well as from formal programs held outside the School. New Buckley teachers are afforded the opportunity to participate in an extensive orientation process that introduces them to the School, its culture and traditions. In addition to introductory meetings with department heads, administrators and the full staff in the late summer and early fall, faculty members are paired with mentor teachers who support and guide them through their first year at the School.

    The Buckley School, an all boys K-9 school, located on the Upper East Side of Manhattan, is seeking a Class IV Homeroom Teacher.  

    The position includes teaching Ancient History (Egyptian, Greek and Roman), English (literature, grammar, Oral English and writing) and Math. The Homeroom component includes group time for discussion, an annual class play, daily recess, lunch and study hall.

    The candidate must be comfortable collaborating with colleagues and be able to efficiently organize and manage the classroom.  

    The preferred candidate will have:
    • 3-5 years of teaching experience in grades 3-5
    • A Master’s Degree  
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills as well as strong technology skills are essential.

    Job Summary:
    The Buckley School, an all-boys K-9 school located on the Upper East Side of Manhattan, is seeking an outstanding Spanish teacher in the fourth, fifth, and sixth grades. Buckley students begin Spanish studies in first grade and continue through ninth grade, offering excellent preparation for language study in secondary school and beyond. 

    By fourth grade, instruction is primarily in Spanish, with a balanced focus on learning to speak, read, write, and understand the language while building knowledge and appreciation of the Spanish language and Hispanic and Latinx culture. 

    The Spanish and French programs are part of the school’s outstanding World Language department, which strives for all students to attain communicative proficiency upon graduation.

    Duties/Responsibilities:

    • They should have an in-depth knowledge of the Spanish language and best practices for effective instructional approaches. 
    • The ability to foster a love of learning the Spanish language in a joyful and rigorous classroom is paramount. 
    • Excellent writing, academic technology, and communication skills are vital. 
    • An undergraduate degree in Spanish or a related discipline, and a master’s degree in Spanish, the teaching of Spanish, or a related field, are preferred, though candidates with relevant experience and who don’t match that degree profile will be considered.

    The Buckley School seeks a teacher with a passion for art education and a strong collegial nature to share a new state-of-the-art studio with the Middle/Upper School art teacher and create age-appropriate curricula. 
     
    While transmitting a passion for the arts and excelling in art instruction with young boys, the preferred candidate will work well with parents on the art committee, co-supervise the hanging and display of a school-wide annual art exhibition, and create attractive wall displays during the School throughout the academic year. 
     
    The preferred candidate will have at least 3-5 years of teaching experience, preferably in independent schools, and a Master’s Degree in Art or Art Education.

    The Buckley School, an all boys K-9 in New York City, is seeking full-time Lower School Assistant Teachers for the upcoming academic year.

    Assistant Teachers are an integral part of Buckley’s Lower School, working with the Head Teacher in each Kindergarten through 3 rd Grade homeroom. Our Assistant Teaching program
    allows teachers to stay and train under Head Teachers for two years.

    Responsibilities include:
    • Collaborating with the Head Teacher to plan, prepare and teach lessons in math, language arts and social studies.
    • Actively participating in daily classroom management.
    • Communicating regularly with the Head Teacher about the students’ academic progress and their social/emotional growth.
    • Teaching a reading group.
    • Supporting the Head Teacher in preparing written reports for each student twice a year.
    • Participating in biweekly divisional faculty meetings
    • Participating in biweekly Assistant Teacher meetings
    Requirements:

    • Highly qualified candidates for this position will also be considered to serve as Buckley’s next English Department Chair.
